Handbuilt Ceramics for Raku - 9th September 2025

Handbuilt Ceramics for Raku - 9th September 2025
Tuesday 9th September
10.30am - 4.30pm
Join me in my peaceful West Cornwall studio for a creative and inspiring one-day course where you'll learn to handbuild your own ceramics specially designed for Raku firing. In this relaxed and supportive session, I’ll guide you through traditional handbuilding techniques such as pinching and coiling to create small pots, bowls and sculptures, perfect for the expressive possibilities of Raku.
We’ll also explore the beautiful and ancient technique of burnishing—polishing the clay surface with a smooth stone or pebble to create a natural sheen. Burnished surfaces are particularly stunning when used for horsehair and feather Raku, where the smoke from burning organic materials leaves unique and dramatic patterns on the surface. It’s also the ideal surface for the naked raku technique.
This course is perfect for beginners and those with some clay experience who want to slow down and connect with clay in a calm, nature-inspired environment. Your finished pieces will be bisque fired after the course, ready to be glazed and Raku fired on a future date.
All materials and tools are included.
The course runs from 10:30am to 4:30pm and includes a delicious light lunch, homemade cake, and a range of teas and fresh coffee. (Dietary requirements can be catered for.)
