Discover the Magic of Raku - An Ancient Art of Fire and Transformation
Join Master Artisan Catherine Lucktaylor for a unique 2-day creative experience in her spacious rural studio in West Cornwall. With over 30 years of experience in Raku-fired ceramics and as a Michelangelo Foundation Master Artisan (Homo Faber Guide), Catherine invites you to explore this exciting and unpredictable technique that has captured the hearts of potters worldwide.
Over two relaxed and inspiring days, you’ll learn the complete Raku process from hand-building to the final dramatic firing and take home your own beautifully glazed and smoked creations.
What You’ll Experience
Day 1 Handbuilding
Learn how to hand-build your own small pots, bowls, or sculptural pieces using simple but effective coiling and pinching techniques. Catherine will guide you through shaping, refining, and preparing your work for firing.
Day 2 –Glazing & Raku Firing
A few days later, return to glaze your bisque-fired pieces and experience the magic of Raku firing. Watch as your red-hot pots are removed from the kiln and placed in sawdust, where they transform before your eyes — revealing shimmering glazes and intricate crackle patterns unique to each piece.
